The national median home price for existing homes is just over $200,000 right now. Knowing how difficult it is to find a home for that price in some areas of the country, I decided to do a little research to see how much it would cost to buy a '$200,000 home' in different cities.

Fortunately, Coldwell Banker has a super-nifty tool that allows you to make a comparison like this. Their Home Price Comparison Index offers an approximate idea of how much a home might cost in 340 different U.S. markets.

Since the national median is just over $200,000, I picked Atlanta as my base city. The median home price in Atlanta is approximately $210,000.
