DISH Network began offering satellite TV services in 1996. Its popularity was strong, recording more than a million customers in as little as a year. Today, the provider is one of the largest satellite providers with over ten million subscribers. DISH Network headquarters is located in Denver, Colo. and it is owned by EchoStar Communications Corporation. DISH Network prides itself as being 'the lowest all-digital TV price in America.'

According to about.com, a few of the pros and cons of DISH Network are as follows:

PROS:

No contract required, no equipment to buy and offers the most affordable programming available.

CONS:

No NFL Sunday Ticket and use of the HD receiver requires that you subscribe to the HD Programming Package.

Summary of DISH Network:

DISH Network tends to have the best prices. Starting at just $31.99* for their America's Top 60 plan all the way to their America's 'Everything' Pak at 77.99*, DISH Network has an affordable programming package for everyone. A local channel subscription costs $5 extra a month, the industry standard price. But, where DISH Network excels is in the start-up cost. There are two options for all residents of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

FREE-FOR-ALL: You will buy all equipment up front, but you'll receive monthly credits which will make the system free after a period of time usually between 1-2 years. Installation is also free for the first two televisions.

OR

DIGITAL HOME ADVANTAGE: You pay the $49.99* activation fee, and up to 4 rooms will be installed for free. This activation fee will also be credited on the first bill, which will make the activation free. They offer equipment upgrades for both DVR and HD receivers at little extra cost.

In a 2004 poll conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, DISH Network ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction among Cable/Satellite TV Subscribers. They have a full customer support center online, including tech support, billing, programming, and FAQs. By phone, DISH Network is available 24-hours-a-day every day of the year.

When comparing satellite and cable companies, DISH Network ranks close to the top in all of the categories: local channels to HD-programming to customer care. They are setting a standard for all cable/satellite providers, and are well worth considering.
