With regular feeding, watering and sunlight, potted roses can be kept in the pot for as long as necessary before being planted in the ground.

Firmly pack soil over the roots and then add water. When the soil around the root is sufficiently saturated, fill the hole with more soil until the spot where the rose is grafted to the root is level with the surrounding bed.
