What Are Low E Window Coatings?

Low E window coatings can play a vital role in the energy efficiency of your windows, whatever style you choose. This article explains what Low E coatings are and how they work.

Low E, or Low Energy, windows refer to double glass windows that have metallic coating applied to the inner surface of the outer pane.

The Benefits of Low E Window Coatings

A Low E coating reflects most ultraviolet rays, which are the type of rays that can cause the most damage to carpets and upholstery. The coating also reduces infrared rays or radiant heat.

Applying a Low E coating to a window may actually increase its insulating properties by as much as 30 percent. This energy efficiency is enhanced when a Low E coating is used in conjunction with an argon buffer between the two glass panels and the use of non-aluminum frames, such as vinyl or wood.
