What Is a Rotating Window?

This brief article discusses the construction and characteristics of rotating windows.

Unlike traditional window styles that slide either vertically or horizontally along a linear track, a rotating window opens by pivoting around a central point. Its operation is very similar to that of a revolving door.

According to Energy Right, tva.apogee.net, rotating windows allow good ventilation because when in the open position, most of the window area is unobstructed.

Because their rotation allows either side of the central pane to face a home's interior, rotating windows are extremely easy to clean. Energy Right notes that reflective coatings can be applied on ones side of the glass so that a homeowner can rotate panes to reflect heat inward or outward, depending upon the season.
