Wood Siding: Rectangular Planks

Those who love the natural charm of real-wood siding may appreciate the simplicity rectangular planks provide. As with all natural wood products, however, rectangular planks require a bit or maintenance.

There are many types of natural wood siding, but mere simplicity puts rectangular planking above the rest. According to Home Improvement Tips, www.home-improvement-tip.com, rectangular planks are perfectly flat and smooth and are installed vertically, flush with one another. This design makes it an excellent insulator and protects the home from moisture. In order to preserve and protect your natural wood, however, you will need to apply a weather treatment every year or so, particularly if you live in damp areas.

Types of Rectangular Planks

As with all types of natural wood siding, rectangular planks are available in a variety of woods, such as cedar, redwood or cypress. These woods can be covered in a semi-transparent sealant for a natural look, or they can be stained to enhance or entirely change the natural color of the wood. As with most wood building materials, wood is particularly susceptible to pests, such as termites and woodpeckers.
