  • Most homeowners choose a range out of habit, as it is the most common type of cooking appliance, however those with a kitchen island or other room design may want to consider a separate cooktop or range.

• • A range has a full cooking surface and an oven or ovens below.
  • It only takes up one space, however some homeowners think that bending down to use the oven is not as easy to use as a wall oven.

• • A cooktop drops into a hole on the top of the countertop. It may have more burners and more functions than a range.
  • A cooktop or range may also include a griddle or grill, but does not have an oven below. Wall ovens will need to be installed in another area of the kitchen.
