1. California State Requirements for Windows

  • The state of California requires that all windows be double-paned windows.
  • The state of California also requires that, for a window to receive an Energy Star Rating, it must have low e glass. Using low e glass gives the window a UV rating of approximately 0.34.

2. Advantages of Using Low E Glass

  • Low e glass is covered with a microscopic reflective coating of silver and metal oxide. This coating allows for less heat loss in the winter and decreased heat gain in the summer.
  • Low e glass allows visible light in while, at the same time, blocking approximately 84% of UV light.
  • Using low e glass in your windows protects your carpets, drapes and floors from fading.
