Video Overview: Accessorizing Granite Countertops

  1. Sinks
    • There are two types of sinks styles to choose from with a granite countertop: overmount and undermount.
    • Undermount sinks are typically recommended as they are easier to clean around and provide a more polished look. They are more expensive though, and can add an additional cost to the granite itself as it requires a finished edge in the cut-out area.
    • Undermount sinks are less expensive, but are harder to clean around and sweep things into sink, but less expensive.
    • Nine out of ten sinks are made from stainless steel, the other option is porcelain. Stainless steel is very common for it's neutral appearance and because it is easy to clean.
  1. Backsplash
    • It is difficult to find a tile backsplash that will perfectly match a granite countertop because of all the different colors and patterns it holds. Homeowners like installing backsplashes made of ceramic or porcelain tile, but they should ask for advice before selecting the tile.
    • One popular backsplash option is to add color, like a four-inch backsplash in Tuscany gold.
