Video Overview: Carpet Installation

  1. Installation Tools
    • 90 percent of new carpets are installed by being stretched in the room. Professional installers use tackless strips, stretchers and a kicker in a perfect installation.
    • Improper installations can result in the carpet buckling, peeling up at the walls and homeowners will not get their optimal usage.
  1. Carpet Pads
    • Most manufacturers require the carpet to be installed with a six pound density pad in order to qualify for the warranty. Homeowner may upgrade to a higher density pad if they choose.
    • The pad acts as a moisture barrier and adds insulation and comfort to the carpet.
  1. Moving Furniture
    • Homeowners can save money on their carpet installation by moving the furniture themselves. Don't pay a professional for what you can do yourself.
    • Often times professional installers will spend more time moving furniture than installing the carpet and that is factored into the overall cost.
  1. Special Considerations
    • Stairs need special installation since they are tailored and use different installation method. This means they will cost more.
    • Homeowners concerned about seams should choose a frieze cut carpet since the seam will be nearly invisible. Installers are very good about hiding the seam in a cut pile carpet, but it will show to some extent.
