Video Overview: Cabinet Refacing vs. Cabinet Remodeling

  1. How To Decide Between Refacing and Remodeling
    • When deciding between refacing and remodeling, homeowners need to decide if they like the current layout/design of the kitchen and if they like their countertops. If the answers are yes, they should look at refacing. If the answers are no, they should consider remodeling.
    • If the homeowners are insure about which route to go, they should look at the trade-offs between refacing and remodeling: such as cost, timeframe, potential appearance and aesthetics and how long they can live with a disrupted kitchen.
  1. Refacing
    • Cabinet refacing is up to 40 percent cheaper than a total remodel. It can be completed in as little as one to two weeks.
    • However, refacing does have limited options. Homeowners are restricted to certain sizes, colors and can not add new features.
  1. Remodeling
    • Cabinet remodeling can be a very expensive project - it involves designing the new kitchen set-up, removing the existing cabinets and buying and installing new cabinets. Homeowners will often need to purchase new countertops or flooring to fit their new cabinets.
    • Homeowners can completely change the look and feel of their kitchen when remodeling as their design options are almost limitless. However, the process may take up to eight weeks and homeowners need to be able to live without a kitchen during that time.
