1. What is a Retrofit Window?
- A retrofit window can be cut to fit into an already existing window frame.
- When installed properly, the window fits inside the original frame, not over the wood trim.
2. Advantages of Installing a Retrofit Window
- With the installation of a retrofit window, there is no wall or paint damage. When doing a slip into wood, however, some additional trim may have to be added and some touchup may be needed afterwards.
- A retrofit window, when installed properly, lasts as long as a new construction window or as long as the existing frame in your home.
- Installation of retrofit windows takes much less time than a new construction window.
- Typically, a window installer puts in nine to twelve retrofit windows in a day, while it can take a whole day to put in just two new construction windows.
- You can have a retrofit window installed at a fraction of the cost of other windows.
3. When Not to Retrofit
- It is not a good idea to retrofit a door. A retrofit door will almost always cause trouble eventually.
